Mia Parnall (b. Cornwall, UK) is a scholar of experimental film and artistic practice in Japan, focused on the 1970s-2000s. She is interested in how metaphors of environment such as climate, attunement, and enclosure inform the aesthetic strategies of media art and performance after the 1960s, as well as in the transpacific genealogies of New Age discourses around nature and the body.

Mia is also active in film programming: from 2023-2026 she served as curator of online programs for the scholarly collective and streaming platform Collaborative Cataloging Japan, and she has contributed programs and translations to screenings at the Barbican, e-flux Screening Room, and the ICA.
